I spent many a sleepless night searching desperately on the Internet for answers. This is what I began to find out:

What is a Diffuse Pontine Glioma (Brainstem Glioma)?
A diffuse pontine glioma or brainstem glioma is a high-grade, or malignant, tumour. This type of tumour arises in the glial the lowest, stem-like part of the brain, which controls many vital functions.
Diffuse pontine gliomas accounts for approximately 300 new cases diagnosed in the United States each year and 40 in the UK.
The median age at diagnosis is 5 to 9 years old, and these tumours occur with equal frequency in boys and girls.
All children diagnosed with the disease die, typically within 3-18 months.
